Brownsville, Texas, just got a lot more international attention.

While SpaceX has quite a large footprint in the southernmost part of Texas, it’s likely other companies will follow the footsteps of one of the most influential aerospace companies in the world.

At the end of June 2022, SelectUSA came to Brownsville with a spin-off of their high-profile SelectUSA Investment Summit. SelectUSA is the marketing arm of the US Department of Commerce charged to promote foreign direct investment into the United States. Since its inception, SelectUSA has facilitated more than $105 billion in investment. That said, this conference was a really exciting and important event for the City of Brownsville bringing a lot of attention and potential business investments with it.

Making this even more exclusive, Brownsville was one of only 13 communities — and the only one in Texas chosen to host this event.

And I think we know why. Location, Location, Location, Its deep seawater port and six additional modes of transportation, which include a newly renovated and expanded international airport, Brownsville has a lure many places in the U.S. don’t.

Not to mention Brownsville is in the middle of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) corridor on the border of Texas and Mexico. Making the area critical for trade and binational manufacturing.

Plus, with various colleges and universities on both sides of the border, the workforce is appealing to small, medium, and large manufacturers in the Automotive, Aerospace, Defense, and Energy sectors who are interested in investing in the United States.

By showcasing what the Brownsville area has to offer through the conference, companies considering investing, expanding, and reshoring their manufacturing operations back to the United States could help add to the expanding potential opportunities in Brownsville.

Local space industry panelists included Dr. Natalie Rens, CEO, and founder of Astreia, and Brant Arseneau founder of Spaced Ventures and 9Point8 Capital.

In fact, more than 30 foreign companies and investors from all over the world visited as guests of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation so there is definitely more to come on the investment front here.
